Overview

What are Foundayo tablets?

Foundayo tablets contain orforglipron, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used for weight loss and weight management in eligible adults. Unlike Wegovy and Mounjaro, which are injections, and unlike the oral semaglutide tablet, Foundayo is a small-molecule, non-peptide medicine, which is why it can be taken at any time of day, with or without food.

Orforglipron mimics GLP-1, a hormone the body releases after eating. It acts on the appetite-regulating areas of the brain, helping to reduce hunger, reduce food cravings and increase fullness, which can support a reduced calorie intake alongside a healthier diet, increased physical activity and regular clinical review.

In the UK, Foundayo is also licensed to improve blood sugar control in adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes. It is not currently available on the NHS for weight management; NHS access would require a separate NICE appraisal.

Foundayo is prescription-only. At Live Well Weight Loss, treatment is only supplied after an online consultation has been reviewed by a UK pharmacist prescriber.

Eligibility

Who may be suitable for Foundayo tablets?

Foundayo is prescription-only. At Live Well Weight Loss, treatment is only supplied after an online consultation has been reviewed by a UK pharmacist prescriber.

Weight-related conditions may include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea or other relevant conditions.

Treatment is not automatically approved. A prescriber must check your medical history, current medicines, BMI, treatment history and safety information before deciding whether Foundayo is appropriate.

Taking it correctly

How do you take Foundayo tablets?

Foundayo is designed to fit around your day. It does not need a fasting window and it does not restrict what you drink with it.

Once daily, any time

Take one tablet once a day. You can take it at any time of day, with or without food.

Swallow it whole

Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush, chew, cut or dissolve it.

Keep it consistent

Try to take it at roughly the same time each day so it becomes part of your routine.

Important: do not take more than one Foundayo tablet per day. If you miss a dose, do not double up — skip it and take your next dose as usual. Always follow the instructions given by your prescriber and the Patient Information Leaflet supplied with your medicine.

Foundayo is increased gradually to help reduce side effects. Treatment begins at 0.8 mg and steps up through five further strengths, with a minimum of one month at each dose level under prescriber supervision.

Possible side effects of Foundayo tablets

Like all medicines, Foundayo can cause side effects. The most common are digestive symptoms, especially when starting treatment or increasing the dose.

Most side effects are mild to moderate and may settle as your body adjusts. Contact a healthcare professional if side effects are severe, persistent or worrying.

Before any operation or sedation: tell your surgeon, anaesthetist or endoscopy team that you are taking a GLP-1 medicine. GLP-1 medicines can slow stomach emptying, which may matter for procedures involving general anaesthesia or deep sedation.

Seek urgent medical help if you develop severe, persistent abdominal pain (a possible sign of pancreatitis), symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, signs of dehydration, or any symptoms that feel severe or unusual.

Contraindications with Foundayo tablets

Foundayo may not be suitable if you:

Are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive
Are under 18
Are allergic to orforglipron or any ingredient in the medicine
Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer
Have multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2

Have a history of pancreatitis
Have severe stomach or gut problems
Are already using another GLP-1 medicine
Take medicines that require close monitoring
Have certain kidney, liver, diabetic eye or mental health concerns that require further review

Pregnancy & contraception: Foundayo must not be used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you could become pregnant, use effective contraception while taking it, and speak to your prescriber before stopping treatment if you are planning a pregnancy.

What is orforglipron?

Orforglipron is the active ingredient in Foundayo. It is a small-molecule, non-peptide GLP-1 receptor agonist, which is what allows it to be taken as a once-daily tablet without food or water restrictions.

Do I need to fast before taking Foundayo?

No. Foundayo can be taken at any time of day, with or without food, and there are no restrictions on what you drink with it. This is one of the main practical differences between Foundayo and the Wegovy tablet.

How is Foundayo different from Mounjaro or Wegovy injections?

Foundayo is a once-daily tablet. Mounjaro and Wegovy injections are once-weekly injections given under the skin. They have not been compared head-to-head in a weight-management trial, so results from separate studies should not be used to predict which will work better for any individual.

Can I switch to Foundayo from another GLP-1 medicine?

Possibly, but this must be assessed by a prescriber. You should not take two GLP-1 medicines at the same time. Tell us in your consultation exactly what you are currently taking and at what dose.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Do not take two tablets to make up for a missed dose. Skip the missed dose and take your next dose as usual. Follow the advice in the Patient Information Leaflet and contact the pharmacy team if you are unsure.

Do Foundayo tablets have side effects?

Yes. The most common are digestive symptoms such as nausea, diarrhoea, constipation and vomiting, particularly when starting treatment or increasing the dose.

Is Foundayo available on the NHS?

Not currently. NHS availability for weight management would require a separate NICE health technology appraisal and a reimbursement decision.

Do I still need diet and lifestyle changes?

Yes. Foundayo is licensed for use alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, with ongoing clinical support.
